Oceans Wide, Great Wave, White Clay
Hi dear pottery friend,
April's here and what a lovely month it is...
Perfect for experimenting with white stoneware clay! (We are comparing it to the red high fired earthenware as I mentioned last month).
Well look what came out of the kiln!
Some of the finished pieces using the white stoneware clay for you...
The glazes shine. The Bay waters ripple and sparkle.
The light and dark tell of the season too...
And under the work you can see some of the Japanese cloth I use for Morecambe Bay Pottery ceramics bags...
All which seems appropriate because...
With the clocks springing forward and the Spring Equinox high tides (See the 'Spring Tides' inside those pieces above again), it was very timely that I received an invitation to visit a new Japanese Art exhibition in Manchester at the Whitworth Gallery.
It's called...
‘Beneath the Great Wave’- Art by Hokasai and Horishige
Two great artists...
Japanese colour block prints are renowned for their timeless creative ability to reach the hearts and minds of all generations.
The artists skilfully capture the quality and essence of Japan's culture in everyday life.
And they continue to influence and inspire others throughout the world to this day.
I love the fine lines and the expressions of daily life portrayed in this incredible art. Dramatic weather scenes are often depicted with people scurrying in their activities, battling the forces of nature as they go!
Sounds familiar somehow don't you think?
Like it could be a scene in Morecambe!
In between all above, along with the kind people at Morecambe Bay Bid....
I've been busily prepping for my first Morecambe Bay Pottery market stall on Saturday 18th April 2026...
Some of the latest white stoneware pots will be available to buy. These are functional art pieces (not just tableware) they've been very carefully made, with love of course. So if you're able to visit Morecambe on that day, I will see you there :)
With a spring in your step and a song in your heart, have a happy day today!
With Love,
Abi.
PS. The amazing 'Beneath The Great Wave' Art Exhibition is open right through to November 2026 if you fancy seeing it on your way to Morecambe.
As they say... "It's Great Up North!"
