One step at a time!

Hi it's Abi...

Welcome to my July newsletter.

And here in Morecambe, we’ve had everything!

Amidst the heat, the rain, the sunshine, life goes on in the pottery studio whatever the weather!

It's a cool, light, tranquil space and making more cups and bowls in it this month has been a pleasure.

Here are some of the most recent ones I’ve been working on…

That said though, it’s not always easy for me…

And realised I have to pace myself as much as my strength allows.

Which is better anyway because the value of every handmade piece is unique.

These ceramics are not mass produced. So when I sometimes think it seems such a slow process I stop to remind myself this is just how things should be.

This is how handmade ceramics are made!

For example there are days in between each step.

This is my exact process for every pot…

Prepping the clay > Throwing the pots > Drying time > First biscuit firing > Resting time > First glazing > Drying time > Second firing. Completion. Yay!

(Two weeks, or sometimes three weeks all together).

Never mind, I keep saying to myself…

“It's one step at a time!”

And this past month, there have been more steps than usual because I’ve had to learn a lot about the business side of this venture.

This has taken me quite of my comfort zone but you'll be pleased to know I'm now a registered ‘Sole Trader’ so I can sell my pottery and artwork online and at markets.

We're still waiting though for the final confirmation we need to open our web shop.

And we shall let you know as soon as it comes through.

Thank you so much for your patience and for being part of this journey with me.

With love.

Abi

P.S.

I never tire of this Bay view below and especially tea and cake in the Stone Jetty cafe at the very end!
