Sunrise, sunset, swiftly fly the years!

Hi it's Abi from Morecambe Bay Pottery.

Welcome to 2026!

I hope you enjoyed the festive season and feel ready to start a New Year!

New beginnings and opportunities bring fresh hope for a fruitful, wholesome year ahead.

I try to have an optimistic outlook even though there's the inevitable shifting changes that life brings.

Looking across the Bay, with nets ready for the shrimp boats wondering what 2026 will bring?

As for my thoughts…

I'm looking forward to trying out different clays and glaze combinations on white stoneware and comparing it with the red high fired earthenware to see how they respond to the glazes.

For example these cups below are made from red high fired clay…

It's exciting to explore and try out new ideas and I'm wondering what this year's colours and shapes will be like.

I think about pottery and glazes all day long! Sometimes until the moon comes out over the Bay…

Anyway…

“Sunrise sunset, swiftly fly the years” as the old song goes.

Either way, whatever the weather, bowls continue to be my favourite to make, so this year let's see how they will be when using the different clays.

To see the difference here is one of my early bowls (sold now) on white stoneware...

It’s quite different to the red clay of the cup isn’t it?

Wishing you a very happy, healthy New Year!

Love,

Abi.
